About

Why this Weblog about a car?

Well, here is a theory, but besides this one, I also love this car.

This car is just nearly brand new, and a perfect last car for me. No, I’m still young (29 at the time of writing).

I just love this car, and I when I found this one, I wanted this one to replace my actual USA 300TD. These cars are so good and will outlive cars from now – they are built to last, they can be trusted, can be fixed everywhere on the planet (which is important to me). Last but not least they are classics, they shine with their nice chrome, they are full of character and style to me.

I also knew something about driving on vegetable oil, and this idea makes it all complete. I was indeed a bit worried, about the extra pollution driving this car is causing. I am also worried about the lack of oil which we encounter. If at least some percentage of the trucks and cars are driving CO2 neutral, this will decrease the lack of oil problem significantly. So, I want to make a statement with this idea too, I hope I’ll drive hundreds of thousands of kilometers with this car, so people are convinced they can do it too and it does not break your engine. Most people are still too scared about it, because they hear about ’not so successful stories’.

Vegetable oil will be the fuel of the future, and I hope the governments of the EU members will support it as much as they can. At the moment in the Netherlands they don’t.

If you’ve got questions about it, or are thinking about it, feel free to contact me. If you’ve got a diesel, think about it, you can help to reduce air-pollution and stop being dependent of oil (and the Middle East), and remember, driving on oil of plants in itself is also fun too.

I’d like to experience myself how tremendously good these cars are. I definitely love the W123, it’s the nice limousine from my youth, and I saw them in all kind of circumstances, always serving their driver, the most special cases were in Africa. I used to see them a lot in Portugal, Greece and Spain when I was little, and when I began to travel myself, I was amazed by all those real old and worn out examples when I was in Morocco, which still drive around.

The Quality shines, yes, with a capital Q. These cars are so good, and hopefully this car will keep me running for years, or maybe decades. I found this example with only 58800km on the clock.

I make a nice project of it too, she will drive on vegetable oil her whole life.

-* The story is not finished yet. *-

*** Some pictures of the first two W123’s which are still family members.

This is my first W123, which I bought in when I was 27, a perfectly great and very nice 230 Coupe. It has a lot of cool options like heated seats, power windows, electric sunroof, Pullman interior, Fuchs rims, Metallic colour, wood on the dash, power steering, Becker Mexico radio.

After owning this car for a year and a half, I decided to buy a station as a new family member, because this beauty is not so practical with our three dogs, and it cannot have too much stuff in it for our travels. Also a big thing is it drives on petrol, which is getting a bit expensive these days. I decided I wanted to have a 300TD, which are hard to find rust free in a technical good state, let alone the cosmetic state.

Here she is..

    Hi from the Pays-Bas!

I can give you much more details if you like, you can send me an email at blurgen [at] gmail.com.

So cool to hear you’re planning to travel with a W123 to the Middle East and Northern Africa! It’s gonna be quite a hassle I guess, to travel through Libya as you need a constant guide and an invitation.

The rooftent is very easy, handy and nice. The tent is a success on every trip. If you need one I can give you the address where I bought it.

Which tyres are you referring to?

    Jurgen
